happy fathers day 2019

https://happyfathersdaylove.com/
Father's Day will be Sunday, June 16, 2019. How do you celebrate your father (or do you honor his memory)? On this page you will find Father's Day dates, a brief history of Father's Day, good quotes and delicious recipes, Papa's Meatloaf at Catch to Dad.
The first known Father's Day service was held on July 5, 1908 at the Williams Memorial Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church, Fairmont, West Virginia, thanks to the efforts of Grace Golden Clayton. Mrs. Clayton had asked her pastor, Dr. R. Thomas Webb, if a Sunday service could be organized to honor fathers.

Missing her own father, who died in 1896, Clayton wanted a special service in memory of the more than 200 fathers who died in a mine blast in Monongah, a few miles south of Fairmont on December 6th. last year. (This was the worst mining disaster in US history, killing more than 360 men and boys and leaving about 1,000 children without a father.)

Although the Fairmont service was the first known to honor fathers, it did not turn into an annual event and the idea was not promoted either (a big celebration at Fairmont on July 4th and a young tragic death due to typhoid fever having done).

Father's Day gains ground

Many people across the country have had similar ideas over the years, but Ms. Sonora Smart Dodd is known to be the one that is popularizing her, starting with the events that led Father's Day to become a national holiday.

Her story began as she listened to Mother's Day sermon in 1909. Mrs. Dodd thought it might be nice to honor fathers. His father, William Smart, had raised SIX alone on his Washington farm after the death of his wife, who had given birth to their sixth child.

Ms. Dodd proposed to the Spokane Association of Ministers and the YMCA to celebrate a "Father's Day". She chose June 5th because it was her father's birthday.

The idea received strong support, but Spokane's good ministers asked that the day be changed to give them more time to prepare sermons on the unexplored topic of fathers.

The first Father's Day in Spokane, Washington, was celebrated on June 19, 1910 (the third Sunday in June) and became an annual event. Soon, other cities had their own celebrations.
From the local festival to the national holiday

Despite widespread support, Father's Day did not become a permanent national holiday for many years. The first bill was introduced in Congress in 1913, but despite the encouragement of President Woodrow Wilson, it was not passed. In 1966, Lyndon Johnson issued a proclamation designating the third Sunday of June as a tribute to fathers.

Finally, in 1972, President Richard Nixon signed a law stating that Father's Day would be celebrated every year on the third Sunday in June. Since then, it's an official and permanent national holiday.
